About the Title

Lest We Forget

        A Christian’s Response to Dementia

JULY, 2023

In 1897. Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem entitled “Recessional.” It was composed during the Jubilee of Queen Victoria. It went against the celebratory mood of the time. It reminds readers of the transient nature of those in power and encourages remembrance of our Lord’s sacrifice for us. Each stanza ends with the lines: “Lord God of Hosts, be with us, lest we forget – lest we forget!”

My choice for the title of this book did not come from Kipling. It was chosen relative to the topic where memory loss is a hallmark of dementia. Nevertheless, it is most appropriate to remember God’s blessings, especially in the context of caregiving.
